Barroca da Malhada
Nestled in the historic Beira Interior region of Portugal, Barroca da Malhada is a beacon of artisanal winemaking, where tradition meets innovation. Once belonging to the Viscounts of Tinalhas, this centuries-old estate now produces organic and biodynamic wines, along with exceptional extra virgin olive oil. With 5 hectares of organically managed vineyards on sandy schist soils, and a total estate of 17.5 hectares including olive trees and cork oaks, the property embodies the essence of terroir-driven craft.
Led by Brazilian architects and rural producers Fernando and Luciana Teixeira de Camargo, alongside winemaking collaborator Valdir Zanirato, Barroca da Malhada operates from a repurposed barn. Their philosophy is simple yet profound: minimal intervention in both vineyard and winery to allow the natural character of the land to shine.
With nine carefully cultivated grape varieties—including Arinto, Fernão Pires, Bical, Touriga Nacional, and Baga—the estate produces wines that speak to the diversity of Portugal’s highest-altitude winemaking region. From skin-contact whites to robust reds, Barroca da Malhada offers a truly unique portfolio.
